Bilkent University Showcases Innovative Invention at IDEF 2025

The 17th International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025), bringing together leading figures of the defence sector and showcasing the latest technological innovations, was held at the Istanbul Expo Center between July 22–27, 2025.

During the fair, an innovative invention developed under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Onur Özcan, faculty member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and founder of the Bilkent Miniature Robotics Lab, was presented. Titled “Magnetically connected, variable spring pitch, soft spring-shaped sensor capable of measuring compression force and its signal conversion method”, the invention is protected by national and international patents and was exhibited at the booth supported by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.

Bilkent University alumnus Amirali Aleali, who completed his master’s degree under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Özcan, attended the fair and introduced the invention in detail to visitors.IDEF

With 121,753 visitors from 114 countries, the fair served as a significant platform for international visibility. We extend our gratitude to alumnus Amirali Aleali for successfully representing Bilkent University, and to Assoc. Prof. Onur Özcan for his pioneering contributions to the development of this valuable invention.
