Vision and Mission of the Department

Bilkent MBG is a leading education and research department, providing knowledge-based teaching in a cutting-edge research environment. It aims to develop close ties with industry and the biomedical scientific community, and strives to rank within the most prestigious institutions worldwide.

The mission of our department is to advance knowledge and educate students in biomedical science that will best serve the nation and the world in the 21st century. Bilkent MBG conducts and supports basic and applied research at molecular, cellular and model organism level to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent life-threatening diseases. The strategic management of such a mission has two core components:

    1.  Maintaining a breadth and depth of knowledge in areas such as cancer, infections and immunology, metabolic diseases, and human genetics coupled to systems biology which requires relentless surveillance of developments and merging or uncoupling fields in research as well as in education as necessary;
    2. Developing internationally renowned capacity to efficiently take care of research and education responsibilities. These are prerequisites to meet the challenges in newly emerging fields as they occur.

We are committed to generating, disseminating, and preserving knowledge, and to working with others to bring this knowledge to bear on the world's great challenges. We are dedicated to providing our students with an education that combines rigorous academic study and the excitement of discovery with the support and intellectual stimulation of a diverse faculty who excel in their respective fields. Our aim is to develop in each member of the MBG community the ability and passion to work wisely, creatively, and effectively for the advancement of humankind.
