Weekly Department Series Hosts Assoc. Prof. İrem Erel Göktepe

On 2nd of May, Chemistry Talk Seminar Series will be proudly hosting Assoc. Prof. İrem Erel Göktepe. Dr. Göktepe will be giving a talk titled “Functionalization of Surfaces via Layer-by-Layer Technique”. All department members and students are cordially invited to attend.

s08_2017_posterAbstract : Layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly of polymers at surfaces is an easy and economical way to functionalize surfaces or produce free standing films. LbL technique also allows incorporating functional molecules into multilayers. Therefore, functional molecule-embedded LbL films are promising polymer platforms for controlled release applications from surfaces. By using stimuli responsive polymers as building blocks for multilayer assembly, it is possible to induce release of functional molecules from surfaces by changing environmental conditions, e.g. pH, temperature, ionic strength, light. Among these, pH and temperature are the most extensively studied stimuli due to the relative ease of control in pH and temperature. In this talk, I will present examples of different pH- and/or temperature-responsive polymer multilayer films, their stimuli-responsive release properties and potential biomedical applications.
